VILLA DONDONA OPPIDUM
AOP LANGUEDOC-MONTPEYROUX 2008

Jo Lynch and André Suquet are both artists. She is a painter, also specialising in the drawing of animals, he was a doctor and is really a poet in the vinyard, his great passion. In 2000, he wanted to offer Jo a garden, as their ancient hospice in Montpeyroux lacked a garden. It would be 21 acres of wild land at the foot of the Larzac that would become vineyard, whilst conserving the more magnificent Holm Oak trees at the heart of the vineyard plots. André Suquet doesn’t just cultivate the vines, he lives with them, decoding their language and replying in biological mode. Medals pouring in since the appearance of their Espérel, a fresh and delectable white from vines growing on high arches…then this Oppidum vintage which is an ode to Mourvèdre and worth waiting for…as is the Mourvèdre in Magnum. The 2008 is heady, silky, and all in depth. For their red varietals, these lovers of the care and attention of vines have chosen to cultivate them close to the soil, even if the land is low down, in their eyes it’s beautiful.
